Assisting efficient on ground movements
Airport Mapping Database (AMDB) provides fully georeferenced airport data, providing a realistic on-board view and enabling highly accurate real-time aircraft positioning. AMDB improves situational awareness, eases ground taxi operations and enables various runway safety features.
AMDB uses information from state sources and enriches it with satellite imagery provided by Airbus Defence & Space. This high resolution imagery means AMDB is a precise, complete and up-to-date set of attributes, with accuracy of least 5m.
Skywise AMDB is available in multiple formats ensuring its use onboard with Airbus Onboard Airport Navigation System (OANS) and A350 Airport Navigation Function (ANF). It is also compatible with ground-based software through JSON format. The same content is also available as the Airport Moving Maps (AMM) option on Mission+.
AMDB holds the EASA DAT Type 1 and 2 certifications. Data production processes comply with the DO-200B international standards and Airbus Data Quality Requirements documentations.
Data points and attributes
Data points captured include:
- Runways: thresholds, designators, stopways, line markings
- Taxiways: runway entry / exits, hold points, taxilines
- Aprons: parking gates, de-icing areas, service roads
- Buildings: terminals, cargo, service buildings
- Hotspots
All data points have a set of attributes, which are fully accessible by selecting the data point on the AMDB.
AMDB & RDB features
AMDB contains 700 airports worldwide, focusing on our current customer base as well as the largest, most frequently used. AMDB coverage is constantly increasing to meet customer operational network needs.
Skywise also maintains a Runway Database (RDB) which contains data points attributed to the runway and entry / exit taxiways. Similar to AMDB, Skywise uses high precision satellite imagery to locate co-ordinates of these key attributes. The RDB catalogue contains 2,300 airports and, in close cooperation with Airbus Design Office, is configured to enable Airbus onboard safety functions:
- Approaching Runway Advisory (ARA)
- Brake to Vacate (BTV)
- Take-off Securing (TOS2)
- Runway Overrun Prevention System (ROPS)
